Over the past two years, Mike has coordinated with several non-profit organizations, including Honduran Children’s Cancer Foundation, Fundación Ruth Paz, Central American Medical Outreach Inc., and The Make It Count Foundation, to send hospital equipment and supplies that could no longer be used at Mount Sinai, however could be used to help Hondurans with their healthcare needs. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with everyone wanting to lend a hand. With the support of hospital leadership, Mike reached out to colleagues in materials management, BioMed, transformation and radiology. Mike was deeply moved to help the people of the second home that he loves so much. The governor of the Bay Islands put a call out for assistance of any kind to help the local population. When the COVID-19 pandemic arrived on the Bay Islands, Roatán and the mainland of Honduras were hit hard. An avid scuba diver, Mike has a home on the island of Roatán. It all started with Michael McCarry, SVP of Perioperative Services. This week, I would like to share an amazing story about how Mount Sinai is impacting patient care in Honduras. Taking care of patients not only within the walls of MSBI, but throughout our community is one of our core values.
